Wet pavement was ruled the cause of the crash, according to the report.

Winn was alone in the car at the time of the incident and was helped by both police officers and officials from the Cardinals' security and medical staff.

He was transported to a hospital for evaluation, where he was found not to have suffered any serious injuries and was later released.

It was not known if Winn would be available for the Cardinals' afternoon game in Detroit on Thursday.

Winn struck a bloop single into short right field with two outs in the 11th to propel the Cardinals to a 2-1 win over the Mets, winning the series two games to three.

The walk-off was the first of Winn's career after making his debut with St. Louis in August 2023.

Coincidentally, Winn had also recorded his first big league hit against the Mets, an infield single on Aug. 18, 2023, where then-Mets first basemanPete Alonso tossed the ballinto the stands.

Alonso, now with the Orioles, sent Winn a bottle of 1942 tequila and a signed bat as a peace offering after his on-field blunder.

"I just wanted to send him something because I didn't want him to think about anything," Alonso said at the time. "I just wanted to send him something because I didn't want him to think about anything."

The fan who caught the ball later returned it to the Cardinals and Winn.

70 days to the World Cup: Sweden sneaks into 2026 tournament without a qualifying win

The countdown to the2026 World Cupis on! Each day ahead of the tournament's return to North America, Yahoo Sports will highlight an insight or moment that showcases just how grand the world's biggest sporting spectacle has become — even beyond the expanded field of this year's global event.

Good fortune has been on Sweden's side during their road to qualifying for the2026 World Cup.

It was unique journey and one that usually would benefit a host nation.

TheBlågultwent winless in the group stage during qualifying, losing four and drawing two to finish at the bottom of Group B. Yet, Sweden had earned in the UEFA playoffs in Path B with Ukraine, Poland and Albania, two wins away from going to the World Cup.

In order to find the answer you need to go back to November 2024 when Sweden defeated Slovakia 2-1 on an Alexander Isak 48th-minute goal. That win secured the Swedes first place in Group 1 of Nations League C and promotion to League B for the next campaign.

Due to the Nations League format, the top four overall group winners that finished outside of the top two places in their respective World Cup qualifying groups were able to advance to the World Cup playoffs. Sweden was part of that group, which put them into the Path B semifinal against Ukraine.

Viktor Gyökeres netted a hat-trick during the 3-1 win over Ukraine, and five days later scored thetie-breaking goal in the 88th minute against Polandto secure Sweden's spot in this summer's tournament.

The wins were the first two under new manager Graham Potter, who was initially hired on a short-term basis in October.

Sweden will now join Group F with the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.

Girl who went missing at 13 years old in 1994 is found alive

A 13-year-old Arizona girl who disappeared nearly 32 years ago has been found alive, the Gila County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

NBC Universal

The disappearance of Christina Marie Plante from Star Valley, a small community in a mountainous area northeast of Phoenix, in 1994 sparked an extensive search that included volunteers, the sheriff's office said.

Although the case went cold, it was never closed, and it was periodically re-reviewed, the sheriff's office said. It was assigned to a cold case unit after the unit was formed.

"Utilizing advances in technology, modern investigative techniques, and detailed case review, detectives developed new leads that ultimately led to a breakthrough," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The sheriff's office said that out of respect for Plante's privacy, additional details were not being released Wednesday.

When she disappeared on May 16, 1994, she was reported to have last been seen going on foot to a stable where her horse was kept, the sheriff's office said in a missing person poster.

Fort Hood soldiers shift to underground training to prepare for battlefield medical care

This week, the 1st Medical Brigade of the III Armored Corps atFort Hood, Texas, held a training exercise called Operation Silver Lightning.

Fox News

The exercise, according to the 1st Medical Brigade, "is designed to simulate the challenges of providing advanced medical care in a contested, large-scale combat environment."

Between March 23 and April 1, the 1st Medical Brigade employed the tactical arm of the Army Health System. Combat medics, optometrists, doctors, veterinarians and other medical personnel simulated a mass casualty event in combat conditions in underground tunnels on the Fort Hood base.

This week, Fox News got an up-close look at how this training exercise was implemented.

"So the medics have understood that you cannot set up a multi-tent field hospital that occupies four or five, up to 15 acres and provides that world-class care, above ground anymore," said Col. Kamil Sztalkoper, director of public affairs for the III Armored Corps.

Sztalkoper said the shift is driven in part by drone warfare observed in the war inUkraine.

"Operation Silver Lightning", a mass casualty training at Fort Hood

"We have to disperse, number one. And then hide in plain sight, is number two. So dispersing is using multiple different kinds of locations. Hiding in plain sight could be in a building, a warehouse, or here. Using one of our unique training facilities that was designed in the 1940s. Utilized in the 1950s to house nuclear and atomic weapons," Sztalkoper told Fox News.

The tunnels have since been decommissioned and cleaned out for use as a training facility — in this case, an underground field hospital. Sztalkoper said the several miles of tunnels are used as a "triage emergency room, operating room, vet, optometry [and] clinics," allowing troops to avoid what he described as the growing drone threat observed inUkraine.

During this exercise, about 300 soldiers and role players portraying wounded troops ran through different evacuation and medical drills, with soldiers rushing the wounded from a helicopter to a military medical vehicle and then into the tunnels.

Combat medics are then trained to treat wounded soldiers, or, role players. Each of the wounded imitated the pain and symptoms of an injury that could happen on the battlefield.

"Really the dilemma for them is managing how they deal with all of this with what they have," said Col. Brad Franklin, deputy commander of the 1st Medical Brigade.

Franklin, who also serves as a chief nurse, said he has experienced similar challenges in real-world operations.

"Knowing you don't have enough people, you don't have enough surgeons, you don't have enough nurses, don't have enough medics and there's more patients than you can handle," Franklin said. "So it's forcing them to triage, reverse triage and take care of these casualties."

World War Ii Veteran Shares Special Performance

Aside from treatment for soldiers, K-9s and their handlers are also training in this exercise. Further down a dark tunnel, veterinarians work on a simulated wounded K-9, while the handler is being treated for simulated injuries across the room.

Lt. Col. Cynthia Fallness, commander of the 43rd Medical Detachment providing veterinary service support, said the personnel conducting this training are doctoral-level veterinarians.

"In this case, it is a traumatic fracture, a compound fracture of the hind limb. And the dog also has a chest wound and also, is having trouble breathing because there's a traumatic injury to the mouth," Fallness said.

"So these are our diesel dogs," she said of the fake K-9 on the operating table.

Combat medics practice evacuating wounded soldiers from a helicopter

Out of the dozens of combat medics training, one medic says his role in the military is more than just a job.

"My grandfather actually served in World War II as a combat medic," William Rothwell, a combat medic with the 1st Medical Brigade, told Fox News. "He went into Normandy, I believe, after the push on Omaha Beach."

Rothwell, a Boston native, never met his grandfather, but heard stories from his father.

"Which was just how brutal it was, how rough it was. Medicine back then wasn't as great. So handling patients was somewhat traumatic."

In this training, Rothwell is getting that real-world medical combat experience before stepping foot on a battlefield.

"The stories of how much he cared and was willing to go, you know, the mile and above to make sure that he can get his brothers home … really touched me," Rothwell said. "So that's kind of how I feel in this situation."

US judge says border officials violated her previous order on warrantless arrests

By Kanishka Singh

Reuters

WASHINGTON, April 1 (Reuters) - A federal judge in California said on Wednesday that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials had violated ‌a previous order from her on warrantless arrests when they carried ‌out an immigration sweep in a Home Depot parking lot in Sacramento.

U.S. District Judge Jennifer Thurston, an appointee of Democratic former President Joe Biden, had issued an order in April last year barring federal agents from warrantless arrests without finding probable cause of a flight risk.

The judge said that border agents appeared to be in violation of her ‌order when they carried out an immigration enforcement action in a Home Depot parking lot in Sacramento in July 2025, and ordered agents throughout the Eastern District of California to properly document reasons to make future stops.

President Donald Trump's administration has pursued an aggressive and hardline immigration crackdown which has been widely condemned by human rights groups as being in violation of due process and free speech rights. ‌Rights groups also say the crackdown has created an unsafe environment for ethnic minorities in the U.S. and raised fears of racial profiling.

Trump has cast his actions as being aimed at reducing illegal immigration and improving domestic security.

"Congress requires Agents to consider whether, when making warrantless arrests, the noncitizen poses a flight risk ‌or a danger to community if released. Rather than abide by Congress' mandate, Agents arrested everyone who could not establish citizenship," Thurston said in court records released on Wednesday.

The judge said ‌that in the July 2025 immigration enforcement action in the parking lot of the Home Depot in Sacramento, agents used 11 "virtually identical" forms to support detentions and arrests.

"Having carefully examined the entire record, including the recorded footage of the ‌Sacramento action, the Court finds that Defendants have again detained people without reasonable suspicion for doing so," the judge said.
