The bear was soon safely secured and taken back to the state police barracks, where it was later turned over to staffers with the state's Environmental Protection Department, who were caring for the animal.

It's not clear how the cub ended up in the ditch or how long it had been there before it was spotted. Details on the bear's condition were not available Friday.

Is it too early to panic about the Boston Red Sox?

We're less than two weeks into the 2026 MLB season, but that doesn't change the fact that some teams are off to promising starts, while others are decidedly not.

Yahoo Sports

As discussed on the latest episode of "Baseball Bar-B-Cast," perhaps the team in the worst position so far this season is the Boston Red Sox.

The Sox are 1-5 and 4.0games back of the Yankees in the AL East, the largest deficit in any division entering play Friday. They were swept by the Astros this week and have lost five in a row since winning on Opening Day.

"This is the team that is objectively in the worst position of any team in the sport right now," Jordan Shusterman said. "It's not just that the Red Sox have lost these games … We're already in the place where it's, 'Oh, boy, this doesn't look great.'"

As Shusterman noted, the team's offseason acquisitions, notably Caleb Durbin, Ranger Suarez, Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo, have not played well through the first six games. Also, Carlos Narváez was benched for an unknown reason, Trevor Story is 4-for-29 to begin the season and Roman Anthony struck out four times on Tuesday.

"As far as five-game losing streaks go, they're packing in a lot of things that are pissing off their own fans," Shusterman said.

Added Jake Mintz: "If you said to the Red Sox, you're going to win on Opening Day, and then over the next five games, we need you to make people as concerned as possible without a debilitating injury … the Red Sox said, 'Yeah, we got this.'"

As the hosts noted, it is silly to be panicking about any baseball team because it is the beginning of April. However, the AL East is not a division in which a contender can afford to fall behind early. Case in point:Boston's playoff odds at FanGraphsdropped from around 60% to around 40% in one week, as Shusterman noted.

"I am not that concerned about the Red Sox," Mintz said, "but at the same time, given the way that this team has operated in previous seasons, I think it is reasonable for fans to be frustrated."

The Red Sox begin their first homestand of the season on Friday, with three games against the Padres followed by three games against the Brewers.

According tothe FDA announcement, Raw Farm is issuing the voluntary recall "under protest," and the company continues to contest the FDA's epidemiological evidence linking its raw Cheddar cheese to the E. coli outbreak. However, it is still recalling several varieties of Cheddar cheese that were made from milk that is not pasteurized or thermalized "as a path forward."

How To Identify the Recalled Cheddar Cheese

Whilethe FDA previously issued an advisoryinstructing customers not to consume, sell, or serve any of the block and shredded Cheddar cheeses produced by Raw Farm after Jan. 4, 2026, we now have a list of exact batches and cheeses subject to recall. What To Do if You Have the Recalled Cheddar Cheese

Consumers are urged not to consume any of the batches of Cheddar cheese included in this voluntary recall. Instead, return the products to the original place of purchase for a full refund.

As of March 26, 2026, the FDA investigation is still ongoing. So far, nine cases of E. coli in three states—California, Florida, and Texas—have been reported, three of which required hospitalization, and one of which resulted in hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can cause kidney failure.

If you consumed the Raw Farm raw Cheddar cheeses, you should monitor yourself for symptoms of E. coli, which can include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any symptoms of an E. coli infection, contact a healthcare provider immediately. If you have questions regarding the recall, you can contact Raw Farm via this form:https://rawfarmusa.com/contact.

Exclusive: Justice Samuel Alito was taken to a hospital last month in previously undisclosed incident

Supreme Court JusticeSamuel Alitowas taken to a hospital after becoming ill last month at a Federalist Society dinner in Philadelphia, according to people with knowledge of the March 20 incident, which had not been previously reported.

CNN

The justice was evaluated and administered fluids for dehydration. He returned to his home in Virginia that night with his security team.

In the two weeks since the incident, Alito has attended oral arguments and appeared healthy during the usual give-and-take with lawyers at the lectern.

Alito, who turned 76 on Wednesday and has served as a justice for 20 years, has become the subject of widespread speculation from commentators across the ideological spectrum and the news media over whether he might retire. (He has refused to answer journalists' questions on the subject.)

Supreme Court spokeswoman Patricia McCabe confirmed Alito's visit following CNN's exclusive report.

"On the evening of Friday, March 20, Justice Alito felt ill during an event in Philadelphia. Out of an abundance of caution, he agreed with his security detail's recommendation to see a physician before the three-hour drive home. After that examination and the administration of fluids for dehydration, he returned home that night, as previously planned," McCabe said in a statement. "Justice Alito was thoroughly checked by his own physician, and he returned to work the following Monday for oral argument."

Information regarding the health of the justices, who are the final word of the reach of the Constitution in American life, is often difficult to obtain. The Supreme Court's public information office previously declined to reveal that Chief Justice John Roberts hadfallen at a country clubnear his suburban Maryland home in June 2020, injured his head and taken by ambulance to a hospital until it was reported by the Washington Post.

If Alito were to decide to step down, the opening would offer President Donald Trump a fourth appointment to the nine-member bench. Trump named three justices with lifetime tenure in his first term.

Close friends of Alito have told CNN that he has contemplated retirement, but that no decision seems imminent.

Alito remains one of most consistent votes favoring Trump's bold policies as they have been challenged in litigation. DuringWednesday's oral arguments over birthright citizenship, Alito expressed more receptiveness than his colleagues to Trump's attempt to end the longstanding constitutional principle that anyone born in the US is an American citizen.

Appointed by George W. Bush in January 2006, Alito has turned out to beone of the most influential justices, particularly through his 2022 decision reversing Roe v. Wade and abortion rights and his moves to retrench on voting rights cases.

On March 20, Alito became ill at a dinner held after aFederalist Society symposiumin his honor at the University of Pennsylvania law school. He was taken by his security detail to an area hospital.

The event, "An Examination of the Jurisprudence of Samuel Alito," featured several of his former law clerks, law professors and attorneys who practice before the high court. The program was closed to the news media but available through a livestream. Alito was not on the schedule, and he did not appear at the day-long symposium.

That morning, the Supreme Court was in session to hand down opinions. Alito, who was not on the bench with his eight colleagues, was scheduled to drive with his security detail to Philadelphia.

Dean Reuter, executive vice president of the Federalist Society, did not respond to CNN's questions about Alito and the organization's Philadelphia events.

The evening earlier, on March 19,Alito attendeda separate dinner in Washington, DC, celebrating Notre Dame law professor Sherif Girgis, who had received the Edwin Meese Originalism Award from the Meese Institute for the Rule of Law within the Mike Pence-founded organization of Advancing American Freedom.

Girgis, also a former Alito clerk, appeared the next day at the March 20 symposium. Girgis did not respond to email and telephone queries from CNN.
